Getting Started with Developmental Math

Which version should I use?

Your NROC Project membership provides you and your students unlimited access to all courses in the NROC Project library, including Developmental Math. The 19-unit, adaptable Developmental Math program may be used as either a stand-alone curriculum, a supplemental resource or even just for online homework.  The entire program is available in two versions: a “standard” version designed to allow customization by the instructor, as well as a pre-assessment version that assigns a personalized pathway through each unit for each student.  Both versions offer video, audio, interactive simulations, puzzles, direct links to supporting text (in English and Spanish) and other instructional approaches that engage a variety of learning styles and attitudes.

Standard or Pre-Assesement?

• Both cover a broad range of math in 19 units: from Arithmetic to topics in Trigonometry.

• Each unit is organized into 2-5 lessons; each lesson is organized into 2-5 topics.

• Customization levels are different for each version.  See below and visit for more information.

• Provides instructor flexibility for pacing the course
• Instructors can mix-and-match topics within the course.
• Unit-level pre-assessments determine personalized paths for each student.
• Instructor determines the mastery level, which topics are displayed, and whether students may retake any pre-assessment

What resources will support my instruction?

Instructor Guides

The Instructor Guides provide topic outlines, learning objectives, tips and challenges of teaching the math in each unit, guidance for using the unit level activities, and Common Core topic correlations.

Open Textbook for Students

These comprehensive, unit-level texts are written in a conversational tone and include learning objectives. Either the Word or PDF version may be adapted, printed and shared with students.  No need for additional expensive textbooks!

Problem Sets and Other Materials to Use NROC to Supplement Existing Courses

Practice problems for Developmental Math—An Open Program provide a pen-and-paper alternative to the medium-level online practice problems in each topic. Instructors are provided with step-by-step solutions for each of the problems

Direct links to content allow you to embed individual topics into your pre-existing course – a great resource for using NROC as a supplemental resource!
